The Vindhya Landscape
The Vindhya Range
The Vindhya mountain range — one of India's oldest geological formations — forms the southern border of the Gangetic plain here. Near Mirzapur, the Kaimur extension of the Vindhyas creates a dramatic landscape of forested plateaus, rocky escarpments, cave systems and hidden valleys.
The range is home to dense mixed deciduous forest, home to leopard, sloth bear, deer and hundreds of bird species. Trekking, rock-climbing and forest safaris are possible for adventure seekers.
